Obituary

Michael E. “Ruben” Crummy, 69, formerly of Viola and New Windsor, died peacefully and unexpectedly on Tuesday, January 4, 2022 in his home at Palmer Hills, Bettendorf.

Visitation is Sunday, January 9th from 2:00 – 5:00 p.m. at Dennison Funeral Home, Viola.  Funeral Mass is 11:00 a.m. Monday, January 10th at St. Anthony Catholic Church, Matherville.  (The Funeral Mass will be live-streamed on Dennison Funeral Homes Facebook Page.)  Burial will be in St. John Catholic Cemetery, Viola.  Memorials may be left for St. John Catholic Cemetery Perpetual Care Fund or to the family.

Michael Eugene was born September 22, 1952 in Rock Island, Illinois the son of Leo and Jane Allen Crummy.  The 1970 graduate of Winola High School was a stand-out on the basketball team.  He attended Black Hawk College.  Mike married Janine GoSline then later married Shelley Smet.  Ruben worked at John Deere for 30 years, retiring in 2004.  He was a member of St. John Catholic Church, Viola.  He loved music and was a talented musician…playing keyboard in many bands over the years including, Joint Effort, Reunion Band, ERRA Band, and Backwater Band.  Ruben enjoyed camping, fishing, and wrestling.  He knew someone everywhere he went, and never knew a stranger.

Those left to cherish his memory are his daughters:  Michelle (Scott Engle) Crummy, Shannon (Dino Tinsley) Crummy, Amanda (Heath) Dalby, and Lyndsey Crummy; grandchildren:  Joshua Pedersen, Preston Pedersen, Blake Jones, Jasmine Dalby, and Brandon Dalby; and siblings:  Sonja (Max) Jones, Nancy (Ed) Michur, Teresa (Steve) Mason, and Jeff (Darlene) Crummy.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
