Virginia Welsh, 92, of Aledo, formerly of Keithsburg, died Wednesday, May 9, 2007, at Mercer County Nursing Home, Aledo. Services are 10 a.m. Saturday, May 12, at Dennison Funeral Home in Aledo. Burial is in New Boston Cemetery, New Boston. Visitation is 5:30-7:30 p.m. today at Dennison Funeral Home in Aledo. She was born April 9, 1915, in New Boston, the daughter of Benjamin and Melinda Johnson Shoemaker. She married Marlin VanDolah in 1932. She later married Leonard Lilly. She then married Dick Welsh. Virginia was a bartender in Williamsfield, Ill., and also dug graves in the area. She enjoyed fishing and dancing. Survivors (and spouses) include two daughters, Linda (Ron) Peterson, Aledo, LaVona Penley; three sons, Leslie (Michelle) VanDolah, Oquawka, Ill., Vernon (Wava) VanDolah, Marion, Iowa, Keith Demming; 16 grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Dick; two children, Milford VanDolah and Randy Vance; 14 brothers and sisters; two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
