Veryl Johnston

Veryl Johnston, 75, of Matherville, died Monday, April 9, 2007, at Mercer County Hospital, Aledo. Graveside services are 10 a.m. Thursday, April 12, at Farlow Grove Cemetery, Matherville. Dennison Funeral Home, Viola, is handling arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be left for the family. She was born March 30, 1932, in Suez Township, Ill., the daughter of Ralph and Grace McIntyre Brown. She married Robert Johnston Nov. 23, 1962, in Grandview, Mo. He preceded her in death Jan. 8, 2002. Veryl worked as a custodian at Modern Woodmen, then later at Sherrard High School. She was a member of the Matherville Eagles. Survivors (and spouses) include two sons, Roddy (Melissa) Hartman and Allen Hartman, both of Matherville; four grandchildren, April Hartman, Rod (Amber) Hartman, Allison (Chris) Olson and Nick Hartman; six great-grandchildren; four sisters, Margaret Merkle, Sandusky, Ohio, Marjorie Lewis, Roseville, Ill., Bonnie Saunders, Milan, and Izora Callahan, Escondido, Calif.; one brother, Hubert Brown, Rock Island. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sisters and four brothers.
