Vernice R. Peterson, 88, of New Windsor, died Tuesday, Nov. 14, 2006, at Mercer County Hospital, Aledo. Services are 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 18, at United Presbyterian Church, New Windsor. Burial is in Petrie Cemetery, New Windsor. Visitation is 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 17, at Dennison Funeral Home, Viola. Memorials may be made to New Windsor United Presbyterian Church or TriCo Ambulance. She was born July 14, 1918, in Matherville, daughter of LeRoy and Eliza Raisbeck Forsyth. She married Fred Peterson Jan. 28, 1937, in Monmouth. He preceded her in death in May 1992. She was a homemaker. She enjoyed playing cards and bingo. She was an avid Cubs fan and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. She was a member of the United Presbyterian Church, New Windsor, and the Golden Circle. She also belonged to Thursday Card Club, Saturday Night Card Club, LNO Senior Citizens and Birthday Club. She was an organizer and contributor to the New Windsor ballpark. She served on the Mercer County election board. Surviving are daughters, Carole Minteer, Rock Island, Jane and Allen Fontenoy, New Windsor, Nancy and Ronnie Smith, New Windsor; sons, Pete and Diane Peterson, Buena Park, Calif., Jim and Nancy Sue Peterson, Moline, Max and Jeanie Peterson, New Windsor, Mike and Debbie Peterson, New Windsor; 15 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; nine stepgreat-grandchildren; six stepgreat-great-grandchildren; brother, Max Forsyth, South Dakota; many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, two brothers and two granddaughters. Online condolences may be left at www.dennisonfuneralhome.com.
