Stella DeRoo

Stella Mae (Russell) DeRoo, 78, of New Boston, Illinois died Tuesday, January 17, 2012 at her home. Funeral services are 10:00 a.m. Monday, January 23, 2012 at New Boston United Methodist Church. Pallbearers are Bryan Boettcher, Brandon Boettcher, Josh Dixon, Brad Dixon, Derek Dixon, Tyler DeRoo and Justin DeRoo. Honorary pallbearers are Michael DeRoo, Ryan DeRoo, Amy Long, Alissa Sackville, Brittany Nelson, Heather DeRoo, Ashley Riggs, Hailey DeRoo and Taylor DeRoo. Burial will be in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, East Moline, IL. Visitation is Sunday, January 22 from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. at New Boston United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be left for the New Boston Cemetery. Dennison Funeral Home, Aledo is handling arrangements. Stella was born May 2, 1933 in Wanlock, Illinois a daughter of Hugh and Winnie (Swartz) Russell. In 1951 she graduated from New Boston High School. She married Adiel "Pickles" DeRoo on October 6, 1955 in Greenville, Mississippi. He passed away October 19, 1993. After marriage, they owned DeRoo's Tap in New Boston for 50 years. Also, for 21 years, she was the babysitter for three of her grandsons. She enjoyed music, singing but most of all dancing. Stella also loved working crossword puzzles. Her greatest joy was her grandkids and great grandchildren. She is survived by 5 children, Sherry (Scott) Boettcher and Penny (Dennis) Dixon, both of New Boston, IL, Randy DeRoo of Aledo, IL, Rodney DeRoo of Corsicana, TX and Becky Sackville of Silvis, IL; 16 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 5 brothers and 2 sisters.
