Sadie E. Plunkett, 95, of Viola, Illinois returned to our Lord and Savior on Sunday, September 13, 2015 at Aledo Health and Rehab.
Funeral services are 11:00 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 17th at Dennison Funeral Home, Viola. Burial will be in Viola Cemetery. Visitation is Wednesday, Sept. 16th from 5:30 -7:30 p.m. at Dennison Funeral Home, Viola. Memorials may be left for Children’s Miracle Network, QC Animal Welfare Center or to the family.
Sadie Elizabeth was born July 13, 1920 in Mannon, Illinois a daughter of Leonard and Dolly Holt Hilligoss. She was a 1938 graduate of New Boston High School. After graduating, she worked as a telephone operator in New Boston and Aledo until her marriage to John Plunkett on Feb. 14, 1947. They were married until his death in May 1981. Sadie worked for Winola Schools for over 30 years, beginning as a volunteer. She enjoyed working with the children in positions as crossing guard, recess monitor and cafeteria worker. Sadie worked at the school well into her 80’s. She enjoyed traveling, especially to Branson. She was a devoted mother and grandmother, who will be deeply missed.
Survivors include her children: Kathleen Plunkett, Viola, IL, John (Kathie) Plunkett, Roselle, IL and Terry Plunkett, Viola, IL; 4 grandchildren: Tera Jo Plunkett-Conley, Angie Dellitt, Melanie Plunkett and Rusty Plunkett; 11 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandson.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, granddaughter Tiffany Plunkett, sister Nettie Luckenbill and brothers Otis, Russell, Curtis, Floyd, Lloyd and Daryl Hilligoss.
