Ruth Callahan

Ruth Callahan, 84 of Keithsburg, Illinois passed away Thursday, September 28, 2006 at St. Mary's Hospital, Galesburg with her husband of 68 years at her bedside. Honoring the request of the deceased, there will not be a visitation. Graveside services will be Tuesday, October 3 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Keithsburg. In lieu of flowers, her family asks that any memorials be made to the Keithsburg Fire and Ambulance Department. Dennison Funeral Home, Aledo is handling arrangements. Ruth was born December 10, 1921 in rural Seaton, the daughter of Tom and Bess (Weeks) Willits. She married Lester Callahan September 29, 1938. In the State Spelling Contest, Ruth placed third in 1933 and second in 1934. She was an avid reader and enjoyed having her grandkids and great grandkids visit her. She is survived by her husband, Lester; son, Alan (Pat) Callahan of Seaton; daughters, Virginia (Tim) Smith of Lewes, Delaware and Patricia (Harry) Bellinger of Muscatine, Iowa; eight grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.
