Russell D. Bellinger, 90, of New Windsor, Illinois died Tuesday, June 16, 2020 at Unity Point Rock Island.
Due to covid, we will leave Dennison Funeral Home in Viola @ 10:30 a.m. on Friday, June 19th to take Russell on a country drive past his farm and home as we proceed to Calvary Lutheran Cemetery for a private graveside service with military rites. Friends may gather along the way to say “fare-well” to Russell. Memorials may be left for New Windsor Fire Department or Calvary Lutheran Church Endowment Trust.
Russell was born December 25, 1929 at home in rural New Windsor to Stanley and Mildred Johnson Bellinger. His claim to fame was that he slept in the same bedroom he was born in. He graduated from New Windsor High School in 1947. On July 1, 1951 he married Carol Juhrend in Aledo. They were married until her death on September 18, 2011. He served in the Army during the Korean Conflict, stationed in Japan. Russell farmed the family farm his entire life, as well as working at the Rock Island Arsenal for 27 years, retiring in 1988. He was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church of New Windsor and the former New Windsor American Legion. Russell and Carol enjoyed visiting casinos. His greatest joy was time spent with grandkids and great grandkids.
Those left to cherish his memory are his daughters: Linda (John) Guild of Cambridge, Cindy Walsten of New Windsor and Mary Ann (Tim) Struble of Woodhull; grandchildren: Leonard Guild, Shannan Child, Amber Larson and Mollie Pfister and 9 great grandchildren.
