Ronald D. Friichtenicht, 79, of Rock Island, Illinois died Wednesday, April 22, 2015 at his home.
A celebration of his life will be 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, April 29 th at Dennison Funeral Home, Viola. Burial, with military honors, will be in Farlow Grove Cemetery, Matherville. Visitation is Tuesday, April 28 th from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Dennison Funeral Home, Viola. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be left APQC – Aids Project Quad Cities.
Ronald Dean was born December 5, 1935 in Matherville, Illinois a son of Fred and Thelma Turner Friichtenicht. He graduated from Sherrard High School and Western Illinois University. He served in the United States Army from 1959-1961. Ron retired from Modern Woodmen of America, and was active with the retirement group of Modern Woodmen. He was very social…enjoying meals out with friends, card club and traveling. He supported APQC and was a devoted member of Matherville Community Church. He had a baseball field in Matherville named in his honor. Ron was known by all as a kind and generous man.
Those left to cherish his memory are his nieces and nephew: Kristin Allshouse, Annadale, VA, Karey Handrahan, Fairfax, VA, Janice Stanley, Rancho Santa Margarita, CA, Sue Mazzarino, Long Beach, CA, Julia Greenlea, Long Beach, CA and Joseph Dean Friichtenicht, San Pedro, CA and sister-in-law: Virginia Friichtenicht, Palm Springs, CA and many beloved friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers: Joseph Friichtenicht and Richard Friichtenicht and partner of 24 years, David Anderson.
