Roger Whittington, 73, of Viola, Illinois died surrounded by his family on Thursday, March 27, 2014 at home.

Visitation is Monday, March 31 st from 3:00 – 7:00 p.m., with services to follow at 7:30 p.m., at Dennison Funeral Home, Viola.  Burial will be at a later date in Viola Cemetery.  Memorials may be left for the family.

Roger was born October 6, 1940 in Wanlock, Illinois a son of Glenn and Frances Needham Whitington.  He was a 1958 graduate of Winola High School.  On March 4, 1961, he married Sandra Smith in Viola.  Roger worked at JI Case for 30 years, retiring on October 31, 1991.  He enjoyed spending time with his kids and grandkids.  Roger loved Tommy’s John Deere tractor, and drove it every time he had a chance.  In his early years, he would go coon hunting…often taking one of the kids or Sandy along for the adventure.  His greatest love was fishing, it was his life.  During any season, he would be gone from morning til night and was famous for sharing his catch with friends and family.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Sandy Whittington of Viola; daughters, Michele Loving of Aledo, Terrie (Larry) Pickett of Chandler, AZ and Denise Whittington of Viola; sons, Rodney (Pat) Whittington of Urbana, OH and Tom (Charla) Whittington of Viola; 10 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; siblings, Richard Whittington of Viola, Robert (Mary Jane) Whittington of Sherrard, Rose Ann (Larry) Wilson of Macomb and Janice Johnson of New Windsor and sister-in-law, Abbie Whitington of Aledo.  Roger was preceded in death by his parents and brother Jerry Whitington.
