Robert Verplaetse

DAVENPORT - Robert J. Verplaetse, 45, of Davenport, Iowa, died Sunday, February 28, 2010, at Genesis East, Davenport. Services will be 11 a.m. Friday, March 5, 2010, at Dennison Funeral Home, Viola, Ill. Burial is in St. John Cemetery, Viola. Visitation is 5-8 p.m. Thursday, March 4, 2010, at Dennison Funeral Home, Viola. Memorials may be made to Robert Verplaetse Memorial Fund. He was born October 16, 1964, in Rock Island, Illinois, to Walter and Patsy Kellum Verplaetse. Robert was a casting operator at Nichols Aluminum, Davenport, for 23 years. He was a member of the Teamsters Union. Robert was an avid hockey fan and enjoyed watching stock car races. His greatest joy was spending time with his grandchildren. Robert is survived by Juanita Jones, Davenport, Iowa; her sons, Casey and Derek Jones, grandchildren, Connor (son of Casey and Christina Goard) and Kaitlyn (daughter of Derek and Jillian Morrison), sisters, Lynn Carlton, Seaton, and Annette (Kirk) Doonan, Viola, brothers, Randall Verplaetse, Barstow, Ill., Scott (Cheri) Verplaetse, Harleton, Texas, Ken Verplaetse, Matherville, Ill., and Wayne (Angie) Verplaetse, Matherville, and in-laws at heart, Glenda (Ray) Docherty and family, Sue (Bob) Day and family, Dean (Candis) Daggett and family and Diana Daggett and family. He was preceded in death by parents, brother-in-law, George Carlton, and nephew, Adam Verplaetse. Robert's family is comforted in knowing that he is still giving after death by being an organ donor.
