Robert Polk, 56, of Viola, Illinois died Sunday, November 24, 2013 in Iowa City.
Memorial services are 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 27th at Viola United Methodist Church with visitation starting at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be left for the family. Burial will be at a later date in Viola Cemetery.
Robert Eugene was born August 24, 1957 in Mattoon, Illinois a son of James Richard and Luetta Bell Fonger Polk. He married Sally Corrine Goben on Aug. 30, 1992 in Viola. His beloved Sally passed away on July 19, 2011. Bob was an auto mechanic for many years and also worked at E&J Scrap Metal. He was an avid “do-it-yourself” guy and renovated many houses. He loved NASCAR, especially Dale Earnhardt. When he could find the time, he enjoyed going fishing. Bob was an active member of Viola United Methodist Church. He was a trustee, serving as vice-chair and loyally participated in 3 different Bible studies. His greatest joy was spending time with family and friends.
Those left to cherish his memory are his daughter from a previous marriage, Tiffany (Jessy White) Polk, Breckenridge, CO; his step-daughters, Melissa (Tony) Maynard, Matherville, IL, Angie Hofer, Moline, IL, Crystal (Joe) Bodman, Taylor Ridge, IL, Brooke (Tylor) Enstrom, Milan, IL and Mandy McNeil, Colona, IL; 12 grandchildren; mother, Luetta Polk, Colona, IL; siblings, Richard Polk, Rock Island, IL, Roger Polk, Colorado, Ronald Polk, Atlanta, GA and Rosemary Rylander, Colona, IL and several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
He was preceded in death by his father and wife.
