Richard Earl Dixon, 76, of Joy, Illinois died Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2012 at Trinity Rock Island.

Funeral services are 10:00 a.m. Monday, Sept. 10 at Joy United Methodist Church with Rev. Beth Nelson officiating.  Pallbearers are Josh Dixon, Brad Dixon, Derek Dixon, Chris Dixon, Alex Dixon and Dave Peterson.  Honorary Pallbearers are Kenny Whitmire, Lane Wakeland, Bill Frieden, Brad Frieden, Kelly Frieden, Nate Willits, Bill Harvey and Dig Wagner.  Burial will be in New Boston Cemetery.  Visitation is 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 9 at Joy United Methodist Church.  Memorials may be left for the New Boston Cemetery.  Dennison Funeral Home, Aledo is handling arrangements.

Richard was born April 22, 1936 at home in Rural Joy, IL the son of Carl Sr. and Zeola Bice Dixon.  He married Joyce Munson on August 17, 1957 in Joy.  Richard graduated from Joy High School and enjoyed playing basketball.  He also coached youth YMCA Basketball when he was younger.  Richard worked for his brother at Dixon Shelling and Hauling.  He owned Joy Tap in Joy, IL and worked for several local farmers in the area.  Richard loved socializing with friends and family.  Through out his life he loved farming and many outdoor activities and did exactly what he enjoyed every day.  He will be missed and loved always.

Survivors include his sons: Dennis (Penny) Dixon, New Boston and Rodney (Lisa) Dixon, Aledo; grandchildren: Josh, Brad and Derek Dixon and Chris and Alex Dixon and five great grandchildren; brothers: Vernon, Kenny, Charlie and Gary Dixon; sisters: Dorothy Anderson and Rose Ann Eggen.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Carl Jr. and sister, Marilyn.
