Rev. Gregory J. Plunkett, 66, of New Windsor, Illinois died Sunday, October 2, 2011 at Mercer County Hospital, Aledo. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, October 5, 2011 at St. Anthony Catholic Church, Matherville. Burial will be in Farlow Grove Cemetery, Matherville. There is no visitation. Memorial may be left for the family. Dennison Funeral Home, Viola is handling arrangements. Gregory J. was born May 4, 1945 in Moline, Illinois the son of D'James and Wilma Hull Plunkett. He graduated from Orion High School in 1963. Gregory was an antique appraiser for an agency in Boston, MA. He also lived in Albuquerque, NM and worked with antiques. He entered Catholic Seminary of St. Francis in Wisconsin and completed his degree. He was ordained in 1988. Rev. Plunkett pastored many churches in Illinois, Ottawa, Carthage and Aledo area, before his retirement. He loved to sing and had a great appreciation of music and art. He is survived by his sisters and brothers-in-law: Dianne and Clark Miner, Coal Valley, IL, Debby and Rudy Vallejo, East Moline, IL, Robyn and Gary August, Walcott, IA and Rhonda and Dale Holgersson, Coal Valley, IL and several nieces and nephews. Those preceding him in death are his father, D'James Plunkett; mother, Wilma Plunkett Cole; step father, Veryl Cole and his grandmother, Margaret Plunkett Johnson.
