Patsy R. Verplaetse, 79, of Viola, died Monday, May 22, 2006, at her home. Mass of Christian burial is 1:30 p.m. Friday, May 26, at St. John's Catholic Church, Viola. Burial is in St. John's Cemetery, Viola. Visitation is 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Dennison Funeral Home, Viola, with a prayer service at 8:15 p.m. Memorials may be made to St. John's Catholic Church. She was born Nov. 6, 1926, in Industry, Ill., daughter of Frennie and Lola Jack Kellum. She married Walter Verplaetse March 11, 1948, at St. Mary's Church, East Moline. He preceded her in death March 26, 2006. She worked as a telephone operator before becoming a homemaker. She enjoyed beekeeping, drawing and attending Bible study classes. She was a member of St. John's Catholic Church, Viola, where she had been a member of St. John's/St. Anthony's Prayer Group and St. John's Altar Society. Survivors include two daughters and son-in-law, Lynn Carlton, Seaton, Annette and Kirk Doonan, Viola; five sons and daughters-in-law, Randall Verplaetse, Barstow, Scott and Cheri Verplaetse, Harleton, Texas, Ken Verplaetse, Matherville, Wayne and Angie Verplaetse, Matherville, Robert Verplaetse and fiancee, Juanita Jones, Davenport; 13 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; son-in-law, George Carlton; infant grandson, Adam Verplaetse; and brother, Jack Kellum.
