Murray Burke Patton, 79, of Manchester, Iowa, formerly of Aledo and New Boston, died Saturday, May 20, 2006, at St. Luke's Medical Center, Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Services are 1 p.m. Tuesday at New Boston United Methodist Church. Burial is in New Boston Cemetery. Visitation is noon to service time. Memorials may be made to the family. Dennison Funeral Home, Aledo, is handling arrangements. He was born Nov. 25, 1926, in Mannon, New Boston Township, the son of James Edward and Juanita Katherine (Stevenson) Patton. He married Dorothy Jean Stevens Jan. 17, 1948, in Aledo. He graduated from New Boston High School. He farmed in Mercer County. Murray also was a bookkeeper, hog buyer and surveyor. He served in the Merchant Marines from 1944-1946. He then served in the U.S. Army from 1951-1953. During his time of service, he graduated from chemical warfare school and also received the Combat Infantryman Badge for military service in Korea. He was a member of New Boston United Methodist Church, V.F.W. and was involved in community politics. He enjoyed softball, bowling, gardening and playing cards. Murray was an avid Chicago White Sox fan. Survivors are his wife, Dorothy Patton, Manchester; two daughters, Teresa Griffith, Manchester, and Tricia Morrow, Boston, Mass.; a son, Tom Patton, Orion; 10 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a sister, Maureen Green, Mesa, Ariz.; and an aunt, Virginia Bingaman, Mesa. He was preceded in death by his parents.
