Martin J. McNally, 86, of Viola, Illinois passed away Tuesday, December 31, 2013 at Genesis Medical Center Aledo.
Services are 11:00 a.m. Monday, January 6, 2014, with visitation 1 hour prior, at Dennison Funeral Home, Viola. Burial, with military rites, will be in Rock Island National Cemetery. Memorials may be left for St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
Martin Joseph McNally, Jr. was born November 5, 1927 in Fitchburg, Massachusettes a son of Martin, Sr. and Marjorie Savage McNally. He served as a medic in the Army during the Korean Conflict. On December 8, 1969 in Folkston, Georgia he married Muriel J. Spargo. She preceded him in death on Sept. 19, 2011. Martin was a retired over the road truck driver, working most of his career with Gless Brothers. He had a love for driving and referred to himself as a “knight of the road”. Mr. McNally was a 32 nd degree Mason, member of the Viola Masonic Lodge and former member of the Consistory. He had also been a member of the Elks in the past. Martin enjoyed woodworking projects that his wife would then decorate. His greatest joy in life was making his bride happy and making people laugh.
Those left to cherish his memory are his step children: Karen J. Miller, Viola and Douglas (Rhonda) Minch, Bettendorf; 3 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren; sister: Margaret (Joe) Pisowocki, Fitchburg, MA and 3 nieces and 3 nephews and their families.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and brother Phil.
