Marilyn J. Smith, 70, of Aledo, formerly of Viola, died Sunday, Aug. 27, 2006, at Mercer County Hospital, Aledo. Services are 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 31, at Dennison Funeral Home, Viola. Burial is in Viola Cemetery. Visitation is 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Viola United Presbyterian Church. She was born Oct. 24, 1935, in Aledo, daughter of Roscoe and Gladys Brown Davenport. She married Richard L. Smith March 11, 1960, in Viola. She was a homemaker and enjoyed antiquing and spending time with her kids and grandkids. She was a member of Viola United Presbyterian Church, where she taught Bible school. Survivors include her husband, Richard, Aledo; daughter, Joni Pestle, Joy; two sons and daughters-in-law, Darren and Kim Smith, Aledo, and Richard R. Smith and Amy Watson, Columbus, Ohio; seven grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; three great-grandchildren; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Millie and Leroy Price, Taylor Ridge, Dorothy and Daryl Lemon, Estes Park, Colo.; Martha and Bill Thorp, Viola; and three brothers and sisters-in-law, Robert and Joanne Davenport, Andalusia, Dallas and Jeannie Davenport, East Moline, and Chuck Davenport, Moline. She was preceded in death by her parents; son, David Wayne Smith; and infant brother, Benjamin Davenport.
