Lester Callahan

Lester V. Callahan, 94, of Keithsburg, Illinois passed away Thursday, November 17, 2011 at Rosewood Care Center, Galesburg. Honoring the request of the deceased, there will not be a visitation. Graveside services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 26, 2011 at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Keithsburg. In lieu of flowers, his family asks that any memorials be made to the Keithsburg Fire and Ambulance Department. Dennison Funeral Home, Aledo is handling arrangements. Lester was born January 2, 1917 in rural Bald Bluff Township, Illinois the son of Roy and Minnie Gaylor Callahan. He married Ruth Willits September 29, 1938. Lester was a lifetime farmer in rural Keithsburg. He was an avid member of the Lions Club and served as Illinois District Governor from 1973-1974. Lester enjoyed having his grandchildren and great grandchildren visit him. Survivors (and spouses) include his son, Alan (Pat) Callahan, Seaton, IL; daughters, Virginia (Tim) Smith, Lewes, DE and Patricia (Harry) Bellinger, Muscatine, IA; 8 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren and a sister, Marilyn (Colin) Paul, Peoria, IL. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth on September 28, 2006.
