Jerry D. Wheeler, 66, of Keithsburg, Illinois died Saturday, August 31, 2013 at Richard Owens Hospice Home, Peoria.
Memorial services are 10:00 a.m. Friday, September 6, 2013 at Keithsburg First Christian Church. Visitation is 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Thursday at the church. Memorials may be left for Keithsburg Volunteer Fire Dept. or OSF Richard Owens Hospice Home. Dennison Funeral Home, Aledo is handling arrangements.
Jerry was born October 16, 1946 in Muscatine, Iowa, a son of Leland and Leona Stapp Wheeler. Jerry was a Marine, serving 3 tours in Vietnam from 1968-1969. He married Kathryn Nylin on February 2, 1970 in Galesburg. Over the years, he had worked at Cannon Bronze in Keithsburg, Admiral in Galesburg and retired from Hon in 2002 after 25 years. After retirement, he worked for Shissler Farms and ran the Young’s Lake Campground, near Kirkwood, for a year.
Mr. Wheeler was a member of the Keithsburg Volunteer Fire Dept., was a NASCAR fan and enjoyed putting puzzles together.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife: Kathy Wheeler, Keithsburg; children: Angie (Brent) Litton, Woodhull and Jerry (Tracey) Wheeler, Jr., Keokuk, IA; grandchildren: Jarod and Kristen Litton and Ella, JayDee and Tyler Wheeler and siblings: Nina Calvelage, Lakeville, MN, Susan Peppers, Mt. Pleasant, IA, Sherry Holmes, Broken Arrow, OK, Rita Grimm, Washington, IA and Mike Wheeler, Washington, IA.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
