Gerald ''Jerry'' Lane Jr., 72, of New Boston, died Sunday, April 19, 2009, at Trinity Medical Center, West Campus, Rock Island. Services are 10 a.m. Thursday, April 23, at New Boston United Methodist Church. Burial is at New Boston Cemetery. Visitation is 4:30-7:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 22, at the church with Masonic services at 8 p.m. Dennison Funeral Home, Aledo, is handling arrangements. Memorials may be made to New Boston United Methodist Church or the New Boston Volunteer Fire Department. He was born Oct. 6, 1936, in Keithsburg, the son of Gerald Sr. and Marjorie Search Lane. He married Dorothy Huston on Aug. 5, 1955, in New Boston. Jerry worked in maintenance at Alcoa from 1954 to 1968, then was a cement finisher for Local 309. He enjoyed visiting with people and spending time with his grandkids and great-grandkids. Jerry was a member of New Boston Masonic Lodge 9, had been a member of the New Boston Fire Department where he had served as fire chief, coached little league baseball and womens softball, and also was past member of the New Boston city board. Survivors are his wife, Dorothy Lane, New Boston; daughter, Terri (Steve) Moreland, Aledo; four sons, Tony (Tammy) Lane, New Boston, Randy (Kelly) Lane, Aledo, Kevin ( Sherry) Lane, Sarasota, Fla., and Jeff (Connie) Lane, Sun City, Ariz.; seven grandchildren, Haley Gross, Brandon Lane, Erin Kelchen, Kristie Keller, Blake and Taylor Lane, Tiffany Imhoff; seven great-grandchildren, Payton, Lilly, Brooklyn, Macy, Carter, Anna, Gabriel; brother, Martin Lane, Norcross, Ga. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Scott; and brother, Dick.
