Jean Miller, 86, of Joy, Illinois died Sunday, June 16, 2013 at Genesis Senior Living, Aledo.
Visitation is Wednesday, June 19, 2013 from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Dennison Funeral Home, Aledo. Funeral services are Thursday, June 20th at 10:00 a.m. at Dennison Funeral Home, Aledo with Rev. Beth Nelson, officiating. Music for the service by Stefanie Carey. Following the service, please join the family at Joy United Methodist Church for a luncheon. Honorary pallbearers are Michele Boney, Kelly Miller, Jennifer Thompson, Candy Terrill, Tony Miller, Joel Miller, Mandy Miller, Nick Willits, Nate Willits and Bobbi Jo Frieden. A private family burial will be held at Muscatine Memorial Park Cemetery later in the day. Memorials may be left for the Joy Fire Department.
Doris Jean Baker was born Dec. 2, 1926 in Hamlet, Illinois a daughter of Lee and Anna Blanche Hayes Baker. She is the last of 11 Baker children. She graduated from Reynolds High School then later went to LaJames Beauty School. On Oct. 14, 1945, she married Wilbur Lloyd Miller on the Boultinghouse Farm in rural Reynolds. He preceded her in death on Oct. 10, 1982.
All of her married life she was a farm wife. For many years, she owned and operated Jeans Beauty Shop in New Boston. She also worked for Millard’s Cleaning at the John Deere Administrative Building.
She was a member of New Boston United Methodist Church. Jean was very active and enjoyed card club, square dancing, crocheting, golfing and bowling. They enjoyed vacationing and fishing in Minnesota. Most of all, she loved spending time with her family and gathering for family dinners.
Those left to cherish her memory are her children Mick and Janice Miller, Illinois City, Joe and Cathy Miller, Joy and Kim (Tom Vruble) Frieden, Joy; 10 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, grandson David Miller and 10 brothers and sisters.
