Janet Smith, 75, of Aledo, Illinois died Tuesday, January 19, 2016 at Genesis Senior Living, Aledo.
Funeral services are 11:00 a.m. on Monday, January 25th at Keithsburg First Christian Church. Burial will be in Greenmound Cemetery, Keithsburg. Visitation is 2:00 – 4:00 p.m., with a V.F.W. Auxiliary Memorial Service at 4:30 p.m., on Sunday, January 24th at Keithsburg First Christian Church. Memorials may be left for the church or Mercer County V.F.W. Auxiliary. Dennison Funeral Home, Aledo is handling arrangements.
Janet was born on April 6, 1940 in Keithsburg, Illinois to Chester Robbins and Helen Watts Robbins. Janet was raised by her mom and step-dad, Helen and Craig Diehl. On June 17, 1956, she married Earl Smith in Eliza, Illinois. Janet worked in the office at Servus Rubber/Norcross and Taxbyte, before moving to the corporate headquarters of VonMaur. She was also a hairdresser for many years. She was an active member of Mercer County V.F.W. Auxiliary and Keithsburg First Christian Church.
Those left to cherish her memory are her husband: Earl Smith; sons and daughters-in-law: Jeff and Judy Smith and Rodney and Kim Smith; grandchildren: Meridith and Scott Steines and Alison Watson; great grandchildren: Parker, Griffen, Noah, Caitlynn, Layne and Hayden: siblings: Dennis, Lee, Faith and Carolyn and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her mother: Helen Bushong, father: Chester Robbins and Step-fathers: Craig Diehl and Julius “Blackie” Bushong.
