James D. Thomas, 71 of Aledo, Illinois died Friday, October 3, 2008 at Trinity at Terrace Park, Bettendorf. Graveside services are Saturday, October 11, 2008 at 1:00 p.m. at Oak Grove Cemetery, Cranston, Iowa (near Muscatine). Visitation is Friday, October 10, 2008 from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. at Dennison Funeral Home, Viola. The family request in lieu of flowers that memorials may be left for the American Cancer Society. Online condolences may be left at www.dennisonfuneralhome.com. James was born January 10, 1937 near Muscatine, Iowa a son of H. Guy and Myrtle Rodruck Thomas. He married Rebecca Hawkins in 1957 then married Shirley White in 1966. Mr. Thomas was a plumber out of Local 25, Rock Island for over 30 years. He enjoyed collecting guns and was a member of the National Rifle Association and Milan Rifle Club. James lived life to the fullest and had many other hobbies that included hang gliding, hunting and S.C.U.B.A. diving. Another thrill was flying airplanes, he had his pilots license for many years. Mr. Thomas also had a love of horses. You could find him enjoying a trail ride or riding barrels. For many years he grew his own vegetables and raised his own beef. In his later years he enjoyed watching the Chicago Bears and NASCAR. Survivors include his children; Marcey Bryan, Batavia, IL, James and Brenda Thomas, Hampton, IL, Diana and Scott Spurgeon, Springfield, MO, Claudine Dalager, Branson, MO and Shane and Amy Thomas, Republic, MO; 10 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild and a brother, Bill Thomas. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Richard.
