Henry Swank

Henry B. Swank, age 88, of Aledo formerly of Keithsburg, Illinois died Friday, May 4, 2007 at the Mercer County Hospital, Aledo. Funeral services are 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 8 at the First Christian Church, Keithsburg. Burial is in Greenmound Cemetery, Keithsburg with graveside military rites by Mercer County V.F.W. Post 1571. Visitation is from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. Monday, May 7 at the church where memorials may be left for the First Christian Church or Keithsburg Fire and Ambulance Service. Dennison Funeral Home, Aledo is handling arrangements. Henry was born April 14, 1919 in Gladstone, IL a son of Harvey and Herma Swank. He attended Gladstone and Keithsburg Schools. He married Rosalie Clark December 18, 1939 in Wapello, Iowa. She passed away November 11, 2006. He served in the Army Air Corps from 1941 through 1945. He was an airplane mechanic gunner and did pre-flight and in-flight maintenance and repair of B-25, B-26, B-29 and C-47 type aircraft. He then served in the National Guard from 1945 through 1951. Henry was a lifetime member of the Mercer County V.F.W. Mr. Swank retired from John Deere Plow and Planter Works after many years, the last years of service as a General Foreman. Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Clark and Pat Swank of Lake Warren, Monmouth, Illinois, 5 Grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by Rosalie, his wife of 68 years, his parents, daughter Connie Doss, 5 brothers and 3 sisters.
