Harry R. Strom, 63, of Matherville, died Wednesday, Aug. 18, 2010, at Trinity Rock Island. Graveside services are 5:30 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 22, at Candor Cemetery, rural Seaton, with military rites conducted by Mercer County VFW Post 1571. Visitation is 1-4 p.m. Sunday at Dennison Funeral Home, Viola. Memorials may be made to the family. He was born July 11, 1947, in Moline, son of Bernard H. and Florence Clark Strom. He married Joan Rowe Burton April 4, 1998, in Moline. He retired July 2, 1999, after 30 years at the Rock Island Arsenal in parts procurement. Harry also ran The Little Store in Matherville for 10 years. From 1967 to 1969, Harry served in intelligence with the U.S. Army. Mr. Strom enjoyed fishing, gardening and was a master carpenter. He was a member of the Matherville Eagles. Survivors (and spouses) include his wife, Joan Strom, Matherville; sons, Brian Strom, New Boston, and Kyle Strom, Moline; stepson, Steven (Randi) Burton, Viola; three grandchildren, Makenna, Gavin and Kendyll; brothers, Bernard "Bud" (Janis) Strom, Seaton, Raymond (Judy) Strom, Paulon, Ariz., Robert Strom, Las Vegas, and Walter Strom, Sacramento, Calif.; and stepbrother, Dennis Rodgers, Rock Island. He was preceded in death by his parents; and siblings, Anna Mae Oestrich and Carl Strom.
