Harry D. Peterson, 82, of Viola, Illinois passed away Monday, February 12, 2018 at Genesis Senior Living, Aledo, Illinois.
Funeral services are 10:00 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 17th at Dennison Funeral Home, Viola. Burial will be in Viola Cemetery. Visitation is Friday, Feb. 16th from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Dennison Funeral Home, Viola. Memorials may be left for Preemption United Methodist Church or Viola Volunteer Fire Dept.
Harry (and his twin brother, Harvey) were born July 30, 1935 in the Kewanee hospital, sons of Clarence and Myrtle Johnson Peterson. Harry was educated in Viola schools, graduating from Viola High School. He served 2 years with the United States Marine Corps. On Sept. 2, 1961, he married Elaine Anderson. Harry had always been self-employed with Viola Soil Services, Hamilton Soil Services, Peterson-Weaver Associates and a consultant for Oxbow Fertilizer of Texas. He served on the Illinois Fertilizer and Chemical Association Board of Directors from 1978-1980.
Survivors include his wife: Elaine Peterson, Viola, IL; daughters and sons-in-law: Darla and Robbie Handsaker, Nevada, IA and Dara and Mick Carr, Cambridge, IL; son and daughter-in-law: Darin and Christi Peterson, Overland Park, KS; 7 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; brothers: Harvey Peterson, Aledo, IL and LaVern “Bud” Peterson, Rio, IL and sister: Gladys Carlson, Ventura, CA.
He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, parents and sister: Ione Shike.
