Gerald "Jerry" Olson

Gerald L. “Jerry” Olson, 78, of Joy, Illinois died Sunday, April 28, 2019 at Aledo Health and Rehab.

Private family graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 3rd at Peniel Cemetery, Joy.  There is no visitation.  Memorials may be left for Mercer County Animal Shelter or Absolute Life Ministries of Dallas City.  Dennison Funeral Home, Aledo is assisting the family.

Gerald Lane Olson was born August 18, 1940 in the family home near Joy, Illinois the son of Carl and Ola Mae Eggen Olson.  He attended Joy High School.  On October 6, 1960, he married Merlene “Cookie” Peterson in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.  Jerry farmed his entire life in the Joy area, retiring in 1990.  Jerry enjoyed hunting and fishing… he even got to go on the trip of his life, moose hunting in Alaska.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife:  Cookie Olson of Joy, Illinois; children:  Brenda (Randy) Frieden of Aledo, Illinois, Ray (Barb) Olson of Aledo, Illinois and Annie (Randy) Palmer of Eliza, Illinois; 13 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren, with 3 more on the way and siblings:  Arthur Olson and Phyllis (Bob) Lincoln all of Joy, Illinois.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sons:  Gary Olson and Gerald “Jerry” Olson, Jr.
