George O. Braucht, 78, of Joy, Illinois died Wednesday, July 29, 2015 at his home.

Memorial services will be at Dennison Funeral Home, Aledo on Saturday, August 1st at 12:00 p.m., with visitation from 10:00 a.m. until time of service.  Interment will be in Peniel Cemetery, rural Joy.  Following graveside services, please join the family for a time of food and fellowship at Joy Park.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be left for Mercer County High School F.F.A. or Mercer County Fair Association.

George Omer Braucht was born February 8, 1937 in Aledo, Illinois, the son of Jacob “Victor” and Ruth (Epperley) Braucht.  After graduating from Joy High School, he attended Western Illinois University.  George had served in the National Guard.  After 25 years as a rural mail carrier, he retired and began driving bus full time for the Mercer County School District.  He had served as Village President of Joy, Illinois and was a former fire chief of the Joy Fire Department.  George enjoyed farming, travel and was an avid train buff.

Those left to cherish his memory are his niece and spouse:  Vicki (MacKinnon) and Mario Gagnon, Toronto, Canada and their children:  Tristan and Joy, who lovingly called him Grandpa George and special cousin and spouse:  Scott and Tricia Morrow, Boston, Mass and their children:  Nick, Anna and Michaela.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister:  Mary Jane MacKinnon.
