Doris R. Robbins Hoing, 88, of Viola, Illinois passed away the morning of Sunday, March 12, 2017 at Genesis Senior Living, Aledo.
Funeral services are 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 16th at Dennison Funeral Home, Viola. Burial will be in Viola Cemetery. Visitation is Wednesday, March 15th from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Dennison Funeral Home, Viola. Memorials may be left for the donor’s choice, Green Twp. Fire District or Viola Cemetery Perpetual Care Fund.
Doris Ruth Robbins was born in Viola, Illinois on March 14, 1928 to Irvin and Verma Baxter Robbins. She received her education at the Viola schools, graduating in 1946; then some training at Moline Public Hospital. Doris was married to Darrell Themanson, then Dean Daves and later marrying Bobbie Hoing. She was a retiree from Maytag Corp. and had also worked at Montgomery Elevator. In her early years she worked as a nurse at several hospitals and for Dr. Jensen in Monmouth. She kept busy after retiring by caring for elderly and babysitting. She was a long time member of the Viola Methodist Church and was a member of the Eda Freeman Class; she also attended the Village Baptist Church of Alexis. She was a Boy Scouts den mother for several years. Doris served on the Viola Village Council from 1977-2008. She loved God, gardening, flowers, crocheting and knitting as well as her children and grandchildren. Her faith in Jesus kept her busy until He called her home.
She is survived by a daughter: Christina (Robert) Themanson-Bjune, Lake Jackson, Texas and son: Lonnie (Jean) Daves, Sherrard, Illinois; 10 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents, sons: Lorrin Gene Daves and Verne Daves, sisters: Eula Jean Smith and Nitabelle Whitehall, brothers: Loren Robbins and Harold “Jess” Robbins, 3 aunts and 2 uncles.
