DeWayne "Lefty" McMeekan, Sr.

DeWayne “Lefty” McMeekan, 72, of Viola, Illinois passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, June 30, 2018.

He was born on September 26, 1945 in Sherrard, Illinois, the son of Dallas and Leona Hurstrom McMeekan.

He was a member of Operating Engineers Local 150 for over 40 years; working many years in the construction field, retiring from Murphy Brothers as a superintendent in the directional drilling division.

He previously attended Cable Community Church and was a member of the Viola Masonic Lodge #577.

Lefty was a very kind-hearted and giving person in many ways. He will be missed very much by his family and friends.

He is survived by his wife: Sandy and their 2 children: DeeAnn (Leo) Urrutia and Kai (Chuck) Fickenscher; his 3 sons from his 1st wife, Mary Blaylock: DeWayne Allen McMeekan Jr., Marvin McMeekan and Troy (Rosa) McMeekan; 2 step-daughters: Dana and Erin; 2 grandsons: Zachary McMeekan and Noah McMeekan; 1 granddaughter: Megan Fickenscher; 2 brothers: Franklin “Mick” (Janet) McMeekan, Larry (Judy) McMeekan; 1 sister: Lois Hemm and many nieces, nephews and their extended families.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters: Berniece Johnson, Bernice Brasmer; brothers: Lyle McMeekan, Robert McMeekan, Melvin McMeekan and Max (infant) McMeekan.

Dennison Funeral Home, Viola assisted the family, and cremation has been accorded.
