Dennis R. Goben, 73, of Preemption, Illinois died, surrounded by family, on Wednesday, May 25, 2016 at his home.
Funeral services are 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 28th at Dennison Funeral Home, Viola. Burial will be in Viola Cemetery. Visitation is Friday, May 27th from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Dennison Funeral Home, Viola. Memorials may be left to the family for a memorial to be established.
Dennis was born June 20, 1942 in Greene Township, Illinois a son of Orville Eugene and Lucille Ione Orwig Goben. He married Patricia Wilson on Sept. 4, 1965 in Preemption. On December 6, 2014 he married his longtime companion, Theresa Barnes Panther in Preemption. Denny worked at Alcoa as a pipefitter for 36 years, retiring in 2001. He had served in the Army National Guard. Denny loved everything about cars…from driving them, working on them, attending car shows to watching races…he was a “Chevy Man”. Often, his love of cars and camping went hand in hand. After retirement, he began restoring golf carts. His greatest joy was his family, especially his grandkids.
Survivors include his wife: Theresa Goben, Preemption, IL; children: Cheryl (Marshall) Fiedler, Schwedelbach, Germany, Denise (Curt) Coyne, Milan, IL, Adam (Kelly) Panther, LeClaire, IA and Melissa (Mark) McQuate, Rock Island, IL; grandchildren: Michael, Kayli, Bella, Kelsey, Dayton, Keegan, Conlan, Landyn and Rhylee; great granddaughter: Raelynn; siblings: Sandra (Paul) Strandberg, Coal Valley, IL, Benne (Judy) Goben, Viola, IL, Randy (Lucy) Goben, Oquawka, IL, Steve (Rhonda) Goben, New Windsor, IL and sisters-in-law: Bonnie, Lalla and Ruth.
He was preceded in death by his parents, son: James Panther and siblings: Sally, Victor, Ronald, Roger, Michael and Larry.
