Darlene Dodson

Darlene M. Dodson, 89, of Aledo, Illinois (formerly of Keithsburg) was surrounded by family as she passed away on Sunday, January 28, 2018 at Genesis Illini, Silvis, Illinois.

Per her wishes, cremation has been accorded.  Graveside services will be 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 31st at Greenmound Cemetery, Keithsburg.  Following the graveside service, will be a time of food and fellowship at Keithsburg First Christian Church.  Memorials may be left for St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or Mercer County V.F.W.  Dennison Funeral Home, Aledo is assisting the family.

Darlene was born November 2, 1928 in Aledo, Illinois a daughter of Roy and Dorothy McPherren Mizner.  She graduated from Aledo High School.   On February 25, 1951, Darlene married Don Dodson in Keithsburg.  They were married until his death on August 15, 1990.  Darlene was a Quality Control Inspector at Cannon Bronze in Keithsburg for 20 years, retiring in 1991.  She then worked 9 years at the Mercer County Hospital Purchasing Department, retiring from there in 2003.  She was a member of the Keithsburg First Christian Church, Mercer County V.F.W. Auxiliary and Mercer County Hospital Auxiliary.  In her free-time, she liked to crochet, quilt and read.  Darlene was a wonderful and loving mother and grandmother…who will be dearly missed by her family.

Those left to cherish her memory are her children:  Steve (Karan Rowser) Dodson, Iowa City, IA, Dennis (Ineth) Dodson, Aledo, IL, Mike (Valerie) Dodson, Keithsburg, IL, Jeff (Doreen) Dodson, Knoxville, IL and Dawn (Joe) Kessinger, Woodhull, IL; 6 grandchildren:  Michelle Bregel, Adam Patterson, Nick Dodson, Justin Kessinger, Jenna Kessinger and Lexy Dodson; 6 great grandchildren; brothers:  Roy (Joan) Mizner and Jim (Phyllis) Mizner all of Aledo, IL and special caregiver:  Missy Kernan.

Darlene’s family would like to give a heartfelt “thank you” to the staff of Genesis-Illini for their exceptional care of their mother.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, infant son, 2 sisters:  Mary and Janet and 2 infant siblings.
