Carolyn A. Masters, 64, of Viola, died Tuesday, Jan. 5, 2010, at Friendship Manor, Rock Island. Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 9, at Dennison Funeral Home, Viola. Private burial will be held on Monday at National Cemetery, Arsenal Island. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 8, at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Illinois State Police Scholarship Fund in remembrance of Trooper Brian McMillen. She was born July 16, 1945, in Rock Island, the daughter of Andrew and Eleanor Dutton Newton. She married Lawrence "Jack" Masters on May 8, 1971, in Aledo. Mrs. Masters was a secretary at Royal Neighbors, Rock Island, for 30 years. After retiring in 1998, she enjoyed socializing with the retirees club. She loved country music and going to concerts, attending her kids' sporting events and collecting Barbies. Carolyn had a special place in her heart for animals, especially dogs. Survivors include her husband, Jack Masters, Moline; three sons, Larry Masters, Keithsburg, Marcus Masters, Viola, and Brian Masters, Silvis; grandson, Trenton Masters, and a grandchild lovingly expected; two sisters, Gloria Flaherty, Brooksfield, Fla., and Doris Johnston, Osage Beach, Mo. She was preceded in death by her parents.
