Bill Hartman, formerly of Matherville, Illinois died Saturday, October 4, 2008 at home in Champaign. Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, October 10, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, 1386 252nd Street, Matherville, Illinois with the Reverend John Thieryoung officiating. Burial will be in Farlow Grove Cemetery, Matherville. Visitation will be Thursday, October 9, 2008 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Dennison Funeral Home, Viola with the rosary recited at 7:00 p.m. Memorial may be left for St. Anthony's Catholic Church. He was born June 14, 1934 in rural Reynolds, Illinois to Bill, Sr. and Lois (Heston) Hartman. Bill graduated from Matherville Grade School in 1949 and Sherrard High School in 1953. He attended and graduated from Western Illinois University, Macomb, in 1958, with a Bachelor of Science in education and received a Master's Degree in Social Work from Loyola University, Chicago, in 1962. Bill began his career at Catholic Social Services in Peoria and was employed for nine years by the Catholic Church. He then was employed by the State of Illinois, Department of Children and Family Services for twenty-seven years. He was a Regional Administrator in Champaign for most of the time and retired in 1994. Bill is survived by his six children: four daughters, Lisa Hartman-Sedig, Sterling, Illinois, Lori Petry, Sugar Grove, Illinois, Leslie Sue Rutland, Moscow, Russia, and Kristine Edwardson, Auburn, Washington and two sons, Mark Hartman, Champaign, Illinois and Mitchell Hartman, Greenville, North Carolina. He is also survived by fifteen grandchildren and two sisters, Joanne Barnes, Sherrard and Bev Basala, Matherville. He was preceded in death by his parents.
