Surrounded by her loving family, Beverly Jean Basala, 78, a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and sister, passed away at Trinity West in Rock Island, IL on Tuesday, June 1, 2010 at 10:44 a.m., after a courageous battle with cancer. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, June 4th at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Matherville, IL with Rev. John Thieryoung officiating. Burial will be at St. John's Catholic Cemetery, Viola, IL. Visitation will be held from 4:00 - 7:30 p.m. Thursday, June 3rd at Dennison Funeral Home, Viola, with rosary being recited at 7:30 p.m. Beverly was born to Willis D. Hartman and Lois E. Heston on April 23, 1932 in Viola. She married David L. Basala, her life-long love, on September 13, 1952 and together they adopted three children. Beverly was a devoted Catholic and faithful follower of the Virgin Mary praying the rosary daily. She served as a Eucharistic minister and member of the Altar and Rosary Society. Beverly was employed by Sherrard Community Unit 200 Schools at Matherville Grade School for several years. She loved to sit on her patio, entertain friends, read and bake, but her true joy came from spending time with her grandchildren. Beverly is survived by her loving husband of 58 years, David; her three devoted children Nanette Seith (Richard) of Sugarland, TX, David L. Basala II (Linda) of Matherville, IL and Elizabeth J. Smith of Bettendorf, IA; seven grandchildren, Eric Grawe, David Basala III, Nicholas Basala, Stephanie Garrett, Amanda Garrett, David Smith and Alexander Smith and a sister, Jo Anne Barnes. Beverly was preceded in death by her parents Willis D. Hartman and Lois E. Danielson and her brother Willis (Bill) Hartman.
