Betty Jane (Brunkow) Forsyth, 86, of Milan, Illinois formerly of Viola, died Tuesday, May 10, 2011 at Trinity Rock Island. Funeral services are 12:00 p.m. Saturday, May 14, 2011 with visitation from 10:00 a.m. until time of service at Dennison Funeral Home, Viola. Burial will be in Viola Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be left to Mercer County V.F.W. #1571 Ladies Auxiliary or Wounded Warriors. Online condolences may be left at www.dennisonfuneralhome.com. Betty was born April 28, 1925 in Nelson, Wisconsin to Arnold and Cora Belle (Spooner) Brunkow. She was educated in Alexis, Monmouth and Seaton schools. She also attended Moline Public Nurses Training. She married Lytle J. "Huck" Forsyth on March 12, 1947 in Leighton, Iowa. He preceded her in death on October 26, 1990. Mrs. Forsyth was a secretary for the University of Illinois/Mercer County Extension Service for 21 years, retiring in 1986. In earlier years, she worked for Dr. Martin E. Conway, Aledo. She was a member of the Viola United Presbyterian Church as was active with the Mercer County V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary. Her many interest included cooking, entertaining, crafts, crocheting and playing cards. She loved to travel and also wintered in Apache Junction, Arizona for 25 years. Betty loved her family and friends. She was blessed, and loved by many that knew her. She will be greatly missed by all. Those left to cherish her memory are, her companion/special friend: Raymond L. Cook, Milan and Apache Junction, AZ; Daughter: Susan Evans and husband, Jesse, St. Paul, MN; Son: Jeff Forsyth, Milan, IL; Sisters: Ardyth Johnson, Maple Grove, MN and Donna DePrenger, Mason City, IA; Brother: Vernon Brunkow, Pekin, IL and several special nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and brother, Donald Brunkow.
