Betty Slagel

Betty J. Slagel, 73, rural Keithsburg, passed away Dec. 23, 2010, at Trinity Medical Center in Rock Island. She was born in Galesburg on Oct. 26, 1937, and was the daughter of Howard L. and Evelyn Lusk Britton. She married Gerald L. Slagel on June 30, 1957, in Galesburg. Betty was a farm wife and helped with the family produce business. Her many hobbies included baking and cooking, crocheting, gardening, shopping, reading, music and collecting angels. She enjoyed her pets and she especially enjoyed spending time with her grandkids. She is survived by her husband Gerald, daughter Debbie and (Shawn) Parrish of Galesburg, son Doug Slagel of Keithsburg and sister Bonnie Hill of Galesburg. She had four grandchildren, Doug Slagel Jr., Tamara Link, Renee Parrish and Stephanie Parish. She also had seven great-grandchildren. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 28, 2010, at Keithsburg First Christian Church. Funeral will be at Keithsburg First Christian Church at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 23, 2010. The Rev. Charles Reynolds will officiate. Burial will be in Greenmound Cemetery in Keithsburg. Pallbearers will be Doug Slagel Jr., Dale Garner, Jeremy Garner, Stanley Harrison, Dave Olson and Danny Boock. Dean McCaw and Dave Geopfert will serve as honorary pallbearers. Dennison Funeral Home of Aledo is in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be made to the Keithsburg Volunteer Fire and Ambulance.
