Betty J. Jinks, 86, of New Boston, died Tuesday, Aug. 17, 2010, at Trinity Muscatine. Services are 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 21, at Dennison Funeral Home, Aledo. Burial is at New Boston Cemtery. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society. She was born Nov. 22, 1923, on a farm outside of Aledo, daughter of Carl and Mabel Anderson Clauson. She married Lew Jinks on March 7, 1948, in Aledo. Betty had a Bachelor of Science in home economics from Western Illinois University. She also attended Chicago Art Institute for Fashion Design. Mrs. Jinks taught home economics over the years in Little York, Seaton and Aledo. She also substituted in Rock Island. She enjoyed playing bridge, sewing, reading and staying current on Republican politics. Her memberships included P.E.O. Chapter AG, Keithsburg, and King's Daughters, Rock Island. Survivors include her husband, Lew Jinks, New Boston; daughters, Elizabeth Decker, Round Rock, Texas, and Kristen "Tina" Nelson and Dr. Rami Boutros, New Boston; five grandchildren, Kaden and Garen Nelson, and Taven, Laken and Lilien Nelson-Boutros; sister, Mildred (Gerald) Meyer, Lincoln, Neb. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, DeWayne Clauson.
