Bernadeen M. Spencer, 92, of Matherville, Illinois died at home, surrounded by her family, on Tuesday, April 19, 2016.
Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 23rd, followed by funeral services at 12:00 p.m. (Noon), at Dennison Funeral Home, Viola. Burial will be in Farlow Grove Cemetery, Matherville. Memorials may be left for the family.
Bernadeen was born March 7, 1924 in Avon, Illinois a daughter of Silas and Maude Hallbeck Hartman. Bernadeen was previously married to Robert Johnston before marrying Thomas Spencer in 1960. She and Tom owned and operated Spencer Hardware in Matherville for 25 years, retiring in 1980. Prior to that, she ran the Chicken Haven in Matherville, where she showcased her skills as an excellent cook. She enjoyed bowling and swimming. In her high school years, she played organized sports, such as basketball and track. She was a member of the Matherville Community Church.
Those left to cherish her memory are her daughter: Bobbie Sue Riddell, Matherville, IL; 5 grandchildren: Candi (Dean) Daggett, Viola, IL, Dennis (Dana) Johnston, Viola, IL, Terri (Chad) Kinsey, Viola, IL, Suzanne Johnston, MT and K’Lea (Kevin) Williams, Matherville, IL; 9 great grandchildren which includes Alex and Kodie Williams and 11 great great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, sons: Raymond and Dennis Johnston and 13 siblings.
