Barbara P. Thompson, 85, of Sherrard, Illinois was surrounded by family as she passed away on Friday, June 14, 2019 at Friendship Manor, Rock Island.
Funeral services are 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 18th, with visitation one hour prior, at Dennison Funeral Home, Viola. Burial will be in Sherrard Cemetery. Memorials may be left for the family to be donated to a favorite charity.
Barbara was born April 25, 1934 in Iowa City, Iowa the daughter of Frederick and Bertha Wardlow Plapp. She graduated from Sherrard High School. Barbara married Vernon Thompson in Iowa City. They were married until his death in 1991. For many years, Barbara delivered mail to post offices in the area. She loved riding horses…she even broke horses for people. In her free time, she enjoyed gardening and baking.
Those left to cherish her memory are her children: Rose (Ronald) Northcutt of Sherrard, Illinois, Carolyn Thompson of Missouri, Diann Thompson of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Brenda (Johnnie) Driver of Hampton, Georgia and John (Pam) Thompson of Moline, Illinois; grandchildren: Angie Northcutt, Jenny (Jason) Debacker, Julie (Chris) Sambdman, Kim (Nate) Mulder, Ken (Terri) Thompson, Sammy Jo Thompson, Amy Thompson, Donald Thompson, Ashley Driver, Karter Thompson and Alesha Thompson; 14 great grandchildren, with another on the way; brother: Frederick Plapp of Lynn Center, Illinois and special friends: Cheryle and Jerry Spivey.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son: Kenneth Thompson and an infant great grandson: Tyson.
