Arlene Tary

Arlene Tary, 99, of Viola, Illinois died peacefully on Friday, February 9, 2018 at Jersey Ridge Place, Davenport, Iowa.

Funeral services are 11:00 a.m., Friday, Feb. 16th at Dennison Funeral Home, Viola.  Burial will be in Viola Cemetery, followed by a time of food and fellowship at Viola United Methodist Church.  Memorials may be left for the church.

Arlene was born December 31, 1918 in rural Preemption, Illinois, a daughter of Latimer and Margaret Clementina Armstrong Holdsworth.  On October 7, 1939, she married Leo R. Tary in Preemption.  They were married until his death on November 20, 2002.  Arlene worked as the office manager at Mercer County Nursing Home for several years, retiring in the early 1980’s.  She was also a devoted wife and mother.  She was a member of American Legion Auxiliary and United Methodist Church in Viola.  Arlene enjoyed traveling, playing Bunco with the East End Club ladies, gardening and birdwatching.  She was famous far and wide for her delicious pies.

Those left to cherish her memory are her children:  Janice Sutton, Franklin, IN, Connie Hays, Urbana, OH and Steve (Marcia) Tary, Ankeny, IA; 7 grandchildren:  Paul (Imelda) Sutton, Noel (Erin) Sutton, Christine (Steve) Steele, Amy (David) Smith, Craig (Tracy) Hays, Monica (Ben) McGill and Nichole (Jamie) Sipes; 14  great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren; siblings:  Evelyn (Pete) Barton, Alpha, IL, Dorothy Zwicker, Moline, IL and Kenneth (Marion) Holdsworth, rural Preemption, IL.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 1 grandson, 2 granddaughters, 1 great grandson, 2 sons-in-law:  Clair Sutton and Don Hays and daughter-in-law:  Connie June Tary.
