Anna Louise Medhurst, 77, of Alexis, died Friday, February 9, 2007 at the Mercer County Nursing Home, Aledo. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 12 at St. Theresa Catholic Church, Alexis. Burial will be in Buffalo Prairie Cemetery. Visitation is Sunday, Feb. 11 from 3:00 - 6:00 p.m. with a rosary service at 6:00 p.m. at Dennison Funeral Home, Aledo. Memorials may be left for St. Theresa Catholic Church, Alexis, the National Bone Marrow Center or the Leukemia Society of America. She was born April 14, 1929 in Alexis to John H. and AnnaBelle (Sharer) Elder. She was married to Robert D. Medhurst on January 31, 1948 at St. Theresa Catholic Church in Alexis. They farmed in the Alexis area for 14 years, then moved to Joy in 1962. In 1996, she moved to Alexis. She graduated from Alexis High School in 1946. She attended Western Illinois University. Annie taught kindergarten in Alexis for 4 years. She was employed at Westmer Unit 203 for 26 years as a Title 1 teacher and as a teacher's aide. She was a charter member of the Mercer County Quilt Guild and Alexis Museum. She was also a member of P.E.O. Chapter AG, Keithsburg, Mercer County Museum, Mercer County History Forum, St. Theresa Altar Society and Oak View Country Club, Aledo. Annie enjoyed antiques, quilting, bridge, reading and traveling to watch her grandchildren in the activities in which they were involved. She is survived by two sons, David (Donna) Medhurst of Aledo and Dennis (Kristen) Medhurst of Viola; son-in-law, Keith (Lynn) Braucht of Bloomington; 5 grandchildren, Kevin (Angie) Braucht, Bloomington; Katie Braucht, Stafford, TX; John Braucht, Macomb; Mike Medhurst, Rock Island and Molly Medhurst, Chicago; 4 step-grandchildren, Tony Loving, Belleville; Amy (Jeff) McWhorter, Aledo; Brianna Ullom, Matherville; and Danica Ullom, Macomb; brother, John K. (Judy) Elder, Alexis; sisters, Joan Sperry, Alexis and Coyleen Lynch, Sun Prairie, WI and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, daughter Carole on February 15, 1989, husband on July 24, 1994 and sister Joyce Combs on June 13, 2005.
