Alden L. McCaw, 78, of Aledo formerly of Keithsburg, died Sunday, March 1, 2009, at Trinity Medical Center, West Campus, Rock Island. Services are 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 4, at First Christian Church, Keithsburg. Burial is at Greenmound Cemetery, Keithsburg, with military rites conducted by Aledo V.F.W. Post No. 1571. Visitation is 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, March 3, at Dennison Funeral Home, Aledo. Memorials may be made to First Christian Church, Keithsburg. He was born May 27, 1930, in Ohio Grove, Ill., son of Dale Eugene and Lillian Kemp McCaw. He married Virginia Sue Willis in Oceanside, Calif. He married Dorothy Ann Dunlap February 6,1965, in San Bernadino, Calif. Mr. McCaw graduated from Keithsburg High School and later attended college. He worked construction helping build factories, power plants, bridges and building. Later he was a postal supervisor for 28 years. He was postmaster from 1957 to 1960 in Leaf River, Ill. He retired Sept. 1, 1988. In his retired years, after the 1993 flood he was active in helping build the Keithsburg Christian Church. Mr. McCaw was in the United State Marines during the Korean Conflict. Mr. McCaw enjoyed fishing playing cards, and loved to travel, and metal detecting. Alden was a member of the Robert Burns Masonic Lodge No. 113 AF & AM in Keithsburg and the Elks Lodge in San Bernadino. He was a former member of Keithsburg Volunteer Fire Department. Mr. McCaw was a member First Christian Church, Keithsburg, where he was a elder board member trustee. Survivors (and their spouses) include his wife, Dorothy N. McCaw, Aledo; daughters, Deborah K. (Tim) Zietlow, Grants Pass, Ore., and Kathi G. (John) Tremontozzi, Frisco, Texas; sons, Douglas C. (Doniese) McCaw, Englewood, Colo., and Donald R. McCaw, Frisco, Texas; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two sisters, Janet Bryant, Illinois City, and Ellen Woodall, Aurora, Colo. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister.
