Alan “Bear” Benson, 63, of Aledo passed away Saturday – October 21, 2017 at his home surrounded by his loved ones.
A memorial service will be held at 6:15pm Friday, October 27th at Dennison Funeral Home, Aledo with visitation from 3:00pm until service time. A celebration of life will follow at the Aledo VFW. Memorials may be made to the Grandpa Bear Educational Fund for his grandchildren.
Alan was born July 24, 1954 in Aledo, IL, son of A. Eugene and Del Benson. He was married to Brenda Kelly Rick and out of this union had 2 daughters Jessica and Jennifer. Bear was a well-known electrical contractor for 27 years in the Mercer County area. He also worked as a locksmith. He enjoyed golfing and was a member of Oak View Country Club. He also enjoyed bee keeping, gardening and gaming. Bear loved his Icehouse, but felt the best beers were the ones shared with friends. He would do anything for anyone in need and often said, “A man has a code to live by.” Bear lived by his code.
Those left to cherish his memory are his mother: Del Benson of New Windsor; daughters Jessica (David) Thomas and Jen (Tyler Anderson) Benson; grandchildren Jacob, Lexi and Elli; sisters Janet Harms and Lisa (Pat) Oberg and special friends Debbie Maynard, Steve Bieri, Gail Cooper and Leann Mudd.
He was preceded in death by his father.
