Don Bacon, 80, of New Boston, Illinois died Saturday, July 8, 2017 at Genesis Medical Center, Aledo.  

Visitation is Monday, July 10th from 5 – 7 p.m. at New Boston United Methodist Church.  Funeral services are 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, July 11th at the church.  Burial will be in New Boston Cemetery.  Memorials may be left for New Boston Fire and Ambulance or New Boston United Methodist Church.  Dennison Funeral Home, Aledo is handling arrangements.

Donald E. Bacon was born November 28, 1936 in Hopkinton, Iowa a son of Loren and Viola Baldwin Bacon.   He graduated from New Boston High School in 1954.  On January 1, 1956, he married Geraldine Willits in New Boston.  Don retired from Millard Maintenance in 1991.  He was active in the New Boston community… serving on the City Council for 11 years, was a member of the fire dept. for 50 years and served as the ambulance service treasurer.  He enjoyed stock car races, watching the Chicago Cubs, attending his grandsons ball games and spending time with family.  In his early years, he enjoyed helping on the farm.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 61 years, Geri Bacon, New Boston, IL; daughters:  Valerie (Lee) Henry, Keithsburg, IL, Brenda Bacon, New Boston, IL and Anita (Denis) Russell, Joy, IL; grandsons:  Chad (Nicole) Henry, Moline, IL and Brian (Jill) Henry, Viola, IL; great grandson:  Chase Henry and siblings:  Dave (Deanna) Bacon, Colona, IL, Marcia (Randy) Cognasi, Prattville, AL and Mark (Julie) Bacon, Muscatine, IA.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters:  Janet Welch and Judy Bieri.

Dear Geri, Brenda, Val & family,

We are so sorry to hear of Don's passing. He was a wonderful man and such a help to our family many times as an integral member of the fire & ambulance team. He will be remembered as a dear friend and a man of integrity. Our prayers are with you all at this difficult time. Heaven has a new angel. May he Rest In Peace and know that he made a difference and finished well. Hugs.

So sorry about Don's passing. He was a great guy. In all those years working with him on the Fire and Ambulance he taught me alot.All the mornings for coffee at BayC with the gang. He will be missed .Cherish the memories and may he rest in peace.Hugs to you all !

We God will give his family strength and guidance in this time of loss. Don is my cousin who is 9 years older than. He and his brother always had very cool cars. I wish we had lived closer to each other. I believe our families would have had great cookouts together, just as I remember some of the great 4th of July cookouts our parents had when we were kids.
